Hello everyone!
I have a 2 person show with Dana Carlson (one of my all time favorite contemporary painters!) opening this Friday at Aftermodern in San Francisco:

Pink Worlds (and White Icing)
An Exhibition of Recent Works by
Fawn Gehweiler and Dana Carlson

Opening Friday, May 23rd, from 6 to 8:30pm

Aftermodern Fine Art Gallery
445 Bryant Street
San Francisco

For more information please visit:
http://www.aftermodern.com

About Pink Worlds:
Taking a cue from the show's namesake "Pink Worlds and White Icing", a collection of poems written by a 12 year old girl in late 60s, artists Dana Carlson and Fawn Gehweiler each present a collection of recent works that take a turn for the pastoral, pop and pretty, albeit with a dash of dark comedy thrown in for good measure. Awash in preteen nostalgia, strangely baroque and alternately naive, precocious, and deeply introspective, these tiny poems about "color, the Beatles, bubblegum, nature, and the universe" lend both a perfect title and a perfect backdrop to their respective candy colored dreamscapes and imaginary narratives of head-in-the-clouds teenage psychedelia.

About the Artists:
Dana Carlson combines traditional painting methods with embroidery, beadwork, and appliqué to create hybrid-handiworked dream worlds. Her intricate paintings conjure up a pretty, Romantic absurdity that is part down-home psychedelia, part angsty gesture painting, and part earnest teenager. Dana earned her MFA from Hunter College in New York in 2000 and continues to exhibit in the New York area and worldwide. Originally from Des Moines, Iowa, Dana currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
http://www.danacarlson.com

Fawn Gehweiler's signature character based paintings have exhibited in galleries around the world and appear in a number of prominent private collections. Originally from Hawaii and currently based in the Pacific Northwest, her work combines the influence of a bohemian upbringing, sartorial escapism, and her own family tree. Widely considered a major influence in the recent explosion of young feminine art in the United States, her aesthetic hinges on a delicate balance of past and present, building obsessive narratives through personal artifacts that reflect the imaginary worlds of little girls, treading the fine line between wide eyed innocence and dark fairy tales.
http://www.fawngehweiler.com

Come on out if you have the chance, it would be great to see you!
xoxoxoxo
Fawn

Also, it's officially official, we'll also be sticking around Portland for an extra week to look for a place! We're hoping to (finally) make the move either the first of December or the first of January... let us know if you spot any adorable affordable ramshackle cottages in your travels!
We're looking for something in the thousand dollars-ish range, east side-ish, and a garage/basement/attic studio space would be amazing! Also, shanty is no big deal if it means we can paint, decorate, and renegade garden at whim! Even better, actually!
Drop us a line or give us a call if you know of anything!
Thanks guys!
More soon!
xoxoxo
Fawn

apparently there is a huge corporate clothing chain in spain that has two different spring collections in stores right now based entirely around graphics that are STOLEN FROM MY ART:

the funny part is that they could have just ASKED ME about designing a collection or two, instead of hiring some cut rate art student to create a hideous cut and paste job of my work.

if you see these collections around, please note that I DID NOT DESIGN THEM. i can't tell you NOT to buy them without risk of some dastardly corporate lawyer turning around and suing ME for defamation, but i can say that i did not CREATE, LICENSE, GET PAID A DIME FOR, OR APPROVE THESE APPROPRIATIONS OF MY WORK IN ANY WAY.

the culprits:
womensecret.com/

they also released a whole collection recently with graphics stolen from freaklub who actually had a day in court with them about it. i've been waiting to hear back from them before i decide what to do, but no luck yet... it seems like my only real option is to serve them with a cease and desist, even though those things NEVER STOP ANYONE. what to do, what to do?
